Wisconsin Deer Need Your Help

deer-cwd            DNR150x104      WISCONSIN DEER NEED YOUR HELP, GET YOUR DEER TESTED FOR CWD.
We have asked Kevin Wallenfang back to talk to us about the new Wisconsin DNR CWD Project (Chronic Wasting Disease).   Kevin is the Wisconsin DNR Big Game Ecologist and can fill us in on what is up with CWD in Wisconsin.
The following is from a post on WAOW.COM on April 14, 2016.
“Chronic wasting disease in Wisconsin’s deer population is growing geographically and in prevalence.  The Department of Natural Resources says more than 9 percent of white-tailed deer tested last year were positive for CWD. The agency says the prevalence rate is the highest since the disease was discovered in Wisconsin in 2002. More than half of the state’s 72 counties now have infected deer.
Chronic Wasting Disease is a highly contagious brain disease in deer and elk that has no early overt symptoms but results in the brain deteriorating and taking on a spongy appearance. It is believed to be caused by an abnormal transmissible protein prion and related to BSE in cattle.

lodi-sausage        NOW COMES THE FUN PART – THE MEAT !!
We welcome Mike Clark of Lodi Sausage Co. Meat Market.  Mike will help us all plan how to get our deer from the field to the freezer the best way possible.  There are ways to do this that is more helpful to the processor and more importantly, better for your meat and YOU.     (And, their venison sausage is to die for!)
